Board of Trustees

Function

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of Middle East University and exercises jurisdiction in all matters pertaining to the University and oversees the affairs of Middle East University, approving strategies, policies, and operations essential to advancing Adventist higher education in particular for the region as well as to serve the global community. The Board of Trustees delegates to the President of Middle East University all powers of administering its policies. In as much as curriculum building and supervision is the proper professional concern of the University faculty under the leadership of the President, the Board of Trustees designates the faculty as the legislative body for determining educational policies such as those governing academic, spiritual, social, extra-curricular, and related affairs. These policies must be formulated within the framework of the objectives, general policies, and the budgetary provisions as voted by the Board of Trustees. The President of the University interprets to the faculty the objectives, general policies, and the budgetary provisions; conversely, the President of the University interprets the policies of the faculty to the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees may properly exercise concern for the total effectiveness of the curricular offerings in relation to the fulfilment of the stated University objectives, but rarely becomes directly active. Before acting on matters having to do with educational policy and organization of the University, the Board of Trustees shall seek the advice of the President of the University and of the University faculty through the President.
