Middle East University offers Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs to reduce the financial burdens on students. The Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs include Needs-Based Financial Aid, Merit Scholarship, Work Study Program, and Family Discount.

Terms and Process

The financial aid is offered in compliance with the eligibility conditions set out below:

  • Financial aid is granted for one academic year for the Needs-Based Financial Aid, and then students must renew their application each year.
  • Other Financial Aid are granted each semester or otherwise specified under the conditions of each Financial Aid category.
  • The financial aid online application should be submitted on the dates announced by the Financial Aid Committee.
  • Only complete applications will be processed. An application is considered incomplete when information is missing in the application and/or not all required documents are submitted.
  • Each student must enroll in the minimum number of credits determined for each Financial Aid and Scholarship Program and keep the minimum number of credits throughout the semester, meet the criteria of each Financial Aid category, to benefit from any type of Financial Aid or Scholarship.
  • Students will not be able to benefit from Financial Aid if they fail or withdraw two courses or more for the program.
  • Financial aid and scholarships are available only to students who are not on academic probation.
  • The Financial Aid/Scholarship are not cumulative; students are granted the higher one at the time of registration. Exception: Family Discount and Work Study Program which could be cumulated.
  • For Sponsored Students, Financial aid and scholarships will be granted under a cascading system (on remaining balance of tuition only after external funding: e.g. sponsorship, educational subsidy, etc.).
  • The Andrews University program fee is not included as part of the MEU Financial Aid.
  • Financial aid and scholarships are limited to funds available.
  • MEU reserves the right to verify the authenticity of any presented document or information submitted.
  • Applications are welcome at any time of the year and responses will be provided within two weeks from the application date. For Fall Semester, priority will be given to applications received before May 31. For Spring semester, priority will be given to applications received before October 31​​.
  • Students may apply to more than one Financial Aid category.

The Needs-Based Financial Aid applies to Tuition only for Lebanese students. This incentive is offered to undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate difficulty in meeting their financial obligations and yet meet academic qualifications and have exemplary character, a strong sense of community and Citizenship.

How to Apply

Interested students are kindly asked to complete and submit the online Financial​​​ Aid application ​ ​along with the required documents to be granted up to 50% financial aid on tuition only.
It is very important to read the instructions carefully before completing the online application. Applications that have missing information and/or missing documents will be considered incomplete and hence will not be evaluated.

When to Apply

Applications for Financial Aid and Scholarships are welcome at any time of the year and responses will be provided within two weeks from the application date. For Fall Semester, priority will be given to applications received before May 31. For Spring semester, priority will be given to applications received before October 31​​.

Applicants are advised not waiting until the last few days before the semester begins, since completing the application and preparing all the required documents may take a week or more and you need to consider the two weeks of the Financial Aid Application turnaround.

The Needs-Based Financial Aid applications are valid for one academic year only. A new application is required for each new academic year.

REMARKS

  • The application should be completed by the applicant online.
  • Upon submitting the application, an interview may be required if requested by the Financial Aid Committee. ​

Required Documents

All applicants are asked to submit photocopies of the required documents while keeping the originals for verification purposes during the interview. In addition to the list below, some students may be asked to submit additional documents based on the interview/house visit assessments. Only complete applications, including all required documents will be processed.​ In addition to your application form, you will need to submit:

  • One passport-size photo.
  • Individual civil status record issued within the last three months.
  • Family civil status record issued within the last three months.
  • If the provider(s) is/are employed: a recent employment letter stating occupation, years of service and gross monthly income including all additional benefits.
  • If the provider(s) is/are self-employed/business owner(s): a commercial circular, shareholders and company’s balance sheet.
  • If applicable, family’s additional revenues: rented out properties, copy of rental contract(s) and/or ownership deed(s) of family-owned properties (house, land, building, etc.). Make sure to submit/upload a COPY of the Ownership Certificate and keep the original to yourself.
  • Copy of car(s) registration form (family and personal).
  • Any additional documentation considered relevant by the applicant.

Eligibility

  • Lebanese students
  • Enrolled in 3 credits or more.
  • Provide evidence of financial need.
  • An exemplary character, a strong sense of community and citizenship.
  • A cumulative GPA higher than 2.0 for Undergraduate students and a cumulative GPA higher than 3.0 for graduate students is a plus.

Disqualification

  • Criminal behavior, gross misconduct (Sanctioned by the Student Affairs Committee), financial distress, or violation of the Financial Aid conditions.

Merit Scholarship for New Undergraduate Students

Offered to reward academic excellence and achievement as evidenced by school grades. The scholarship is granted based on students’ grades and covers from 25% to 100% of tuition only. An online application is required for new students. If you have excellent scores in the official Lebanese Baccalaureate exam, SAT exam, ACT exam, or equivalent international GPA, you may qualify for a Merit tuition Scholarship which covers up to 100% of tuition for the first semester only. After the first semester, a regular Merit Scholarship for current Undergraduate Students applies.

To be eligible, students must register on a full-time basis and keep the minimum number of credits throughout the semester (a minimum of 12 credits). Procedure: An online application is required; the scholarship is automatically awarded to qualified students who will receive a confirmation letter along with their offer of admission.

Valedictorian
A valedictorian (Best, one, of the school’s graduating class) is eligible for a 100% discount on tuition only for the first semester. After the first semester, the student is eligible for the regular merit-based scholarship for current students.

Merit Tuition Scholarship for Current Undergraduate Students

Merit scholarships are automatically awarded to MEU students, with a CGPA of 3.40 and above, upon completion of 12 credits at MEU and keep the minimum number of credits throughout the semester (after first semester).

Merit Tuition Scholarship for New Graduate Students (Undergraduate CGPA)

Offered to reward academic excellence and achievement as evidenced by university grades. The scholarship is granted based on students’ grades and covers from 25% to 100% of tuition only for the first semester. After the first semester, a regular Merit Scholarship for the Current Graduate Students applies.

To be eligible students must register on a full-time basis and keep the minimum number of credits throughout the semester (a minimum of 6 credits). Procedure: Application is required for new students; the scholarship is automatically awarded to qualified students who will receive a confirmation letter along with their offer of admission.

Merit Tuition Scholarship for Current Graduate Students

Merit scholarships are automatically awarded to MEU students, with a CGPA of 3.90 and above, upon completion of 6 credits at MEU and keep the minimum number of credits throughout the semester (after first semester).

The work-study program gives you the opportunity to gain work experience, discipline, a sense of personal responsibility and accomplishment. Students are welcome to apply to work in offices/departments across the university for a certain number of hours per semester, at the hourly rate set by the Finance Committee each year/semester.

To be eligible for Work-Study, your Financial Aid online Application must be accepted and you must maintain the eligibility requirements mentioned below.
Selection Criteria

  • For full-time students a minimum course load of 9 credits per semester for undergraduate students, and 3 credits per semester for graduate students, unless the student is graduating this year.
  • Work ethic, citizenship, and performance.
  • New students receiving financial aid may benefit up to the total number of credits required in their major for graduation.

When two or more students from the same family are attending Middle East University during the same academic year, a discount of 10% is given to the additional siblings.

Eligibility:

  • The Family Discount required a minimal 9 credits each sibling and keep the minimum number of credits throughout the semester.
  • Application for the family discount must be made at the time of registration.
  • The Family Discount applies to tuition paid only.

Note: The academic load requirement to grant the Family Discount is subject to change.

The honor loan is funded by “The Cesan Family Scholarship Fund”. The purpose of the honor loan is to help worthy undergraduate students who are willing to pay back their loan to support other worthy students coming after them.

MEU’s Rules and Regulations for Financial Aid will apply to the honor loan. Besides, the following conditions are set out below.

Conditions

  • Students can receive honor loans up to 80% of their tuition. Students are responsible for the remainder of the tuition, as well as other fees established by MEU.
  • If the student is a dorm student, MEU will grant a special scholarship equivalent of twenty percent (20%) of the established value of the dorm and cafeteria.
  • The student benefited from the loan must join a student labor department, for which he/she will allocate five (5) hours per week of mandatory and non-remunerated service.
  • During the first year of receiving the honor loan the student must participate in one canvassing campaign (Winter or Summer). In this way, the necessary resources will be obtained to face the subsequent periods of study.
  • For degrees of up to three (3) years in duration, the loans must be repaid within a maximum period of three (3) years from the end of the degree. For degrees of up to four (4) years in duration (e.g. Freshman plus Bachelor), the loans must be repaid within a maximum period of four (4) years from the end of the degree.
  • A grace period of six (6) months will be granted so that the graduate can integrate into the labor market.
  • The sum of the loan, updated according to the variations experienced by the tuition credit, will be paid in partial payments according to the financing plans that are agreed upon at the time of starting the repayment.
  • The student will sign an Honor Loan Contract and a promissory note at the beginning of each semester.
  • Students will not be able to accumulate any other benefit granted by MEU.
