Welcome Back to MEU!

July 20, 2021

Dear Middle East University Students:

Whether you will be a new student, a returning student, or you are a prospective student, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the MEU campus for this Fall Semester of 2021-2022.

As the infection rate decreases and immunization increases here in Lebanon, it will now be possible to hold classes in person once again. In fact, we hope that many of our traditional in person events will resume, including new student orientation, assemblies, club meetings, and sports activities. Our students can return to the dormitories, the cafeteria, and the library once more.

However, returning to normal life is largely achievable with immunization. A vaccinated MEU community will make it possible for everyone to return to campus. Through our partnership with University of Saint Joseph, all MEU students can receive the Pfizer vaccine. This is free, without cost.

If you have not yet signed up for our vaccination campaign, please email Ryan Eusoya and register through Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health vaccination platform COVAX.

You can find the instructions for registering through COVAX here:

All MEU students in Lebanon, whether you are a new student this coming year or a returning student, can take their first Pfizer shot this month. Please register if you have not done so.

If you are a new or returning MEU student currently outside of Lebanon, we encourage you to obtain vaccination in your country. But if you are unable to, you may receive the Pfizer vaccination when you return to Lebanon.

You can find out more about our vaccination plan in “A Vaccinated MEU Community.”

Starting in August

For our new students, we plan to hold our orientation experience on August 24 and 25, 2021. All new MEU students, local and international, are invited to attend our required orientation experience, “Live, Love, Learn at MEU” where you’ll see what life is like as an MEU student, make new friends, and meet the faculty and staff who are excited to help you begin your journey in university.

The institutional English language entrance examination will also be offered on August 23. All new MEU students whose native language is not English or are arriving from an institution where English is neither the language of instruction nor the principal language spoken on campus are required to take this examination.

International Arrivals

We recommend that prior to arrival in Lebanon, our international students be fully vaccinated in their home countries by vaccines approved by their government’s Department or Ministry of Health. Those who are fully immunized prior to arrival in Lebanon will not require quarantine, unless you are coming from countries listed below.

For international students who are not able to obtain vaccination, new students should plan to arrive by August 19 at the latest in order to complete a 3 day campus isolation before an in-person orientation. Returning international students should plan to arrive no later than August 22.

Please note that you are currently also required to have a negative PCR test in your home country prior to boarding on a flight to Beirut. However, if you are fully vaccinated and have a vaccination certificate, you may or may not need a PCR test in your home country before boarding your flight to Beirut. You will need to check on this with your airline as you make plans to travel to Beirut.

International arrivals will be tested for COVID at the airport upon arrival and then you will be isolated on campus until negative PCR results are available.

Students arriving from or transiting through Brazil, India, Ethiopia, Kenya, U.A.E. or the UK need to contact us about their specific procedures for arrival.

To be fully vaccinated means that you have received 2 doses of an approved vaccine in your country and are at least 2 weeks after the 2nd dose. You will still be required to be Covid tested at the airport, and may need to be isolated on campus until negative results are made available.

For questions about COVID safety for arrival, quarantining, and returning to the dormitory, please contact your residence hall deans.

See you soon!

Although we see challenges in our everyday lives, we are committed to providing you a quality university education. Our circumstances do not need to discourage us from pursuing a meaningful learning experience. Meeting together once again for classes, activities, and friendship is something we can look forward to with gratitude. We hope to see you on campus for this coming Fall Semester, and welcome back to MEU.
