Report of MEU Board of Trustees Spring Meeting
Dear Alumni and Friends of MEU,
We are pleased to share several important highlights and decisions from the recent Spring meeting of the Middle East University Board of Trustees, which took place on May 21.
Yearly Report Approved
The Board received and approved the 2025–2026 Yearly Report, which summarized the major achievements, challenges, and developments across the institution during the current academic year. The report reflected the ongoing commitment of the University community to the mission of Christ-centered education in the Middle East and beyond.
Approval of the 2026–2027 Academic Catalog
Upon recommendation from the Academic Board, the Board of Trustees approved the 2026–2027 Academic Catalog, continuing MEU’s commitment to academic quality, institutional development, and mission-focused education.
AAA Accreditation Continued Through 2029
The Board voted to accept the final report of the Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) Visiting Committee, which visited the MEU campus on December 8–10, 2025. Following the Committee’s recommendation, the AAA Board granted MEU a four-year continuation of accreditation through December 31, 2029.
The AAA Board also requested:
• A written progress report by December 2026
• An interim site visit before December 31, 2027
• An institutional report prior to the interim visit
We praise God for this positive accreditation outcome and for His continued guidance over the University.
Faculty Promotions and Recognition
Upon recommendation of the Ranking Committee, the Board approved the following faculty promotions and recognitions:
• Dr. Dioi Cruz: promoted from Associate Professor to Professor
• Bassam Abdalla: promoted from Instructor to Lecturer
• Dr. Larry Lichtenwalter: granted the title of Emeritus Professor
We congratulate these dedicated educators for their faithful service and contribution to the mission of MEU.
2026–2027 Budget Deferred Pending Further Review
The Board voted to defer approval of the 2026–2027 operating budget while additional financial information and planning considerations are completed.
In addition, the Board requested that MENAUM ask the General Conference MENAUM Oversight Committee to appoint a study commission to review all aspects of the University and provide recommendations that will support the development of a sustainable long-term financial strategy for the institution.
Recruitment and Enrollment Initiatives Strengthened
The Board approved the reallocation of a $100,000 recruitment donation to support several strategic enrollment initiatives, including:
• The “Pathway Leadership Program”
• The “MEU Ambassador Program”
• Additional student financial aid
• The engagement of an external recruitment and marketing consultant
These initiatives are intended to strengthen student recruitment, leadership development, and institutional visibility throughout the region.
