Bachelor of Science in Biology
Biology
Explore the science of life. Discover where it could take you.
Understand living systems, build scientific thinking and laboratory skills, then explore Biomedical or Biotechnology — two concentrations within one BS in Biology at MEU.
What Is Biology?
Life is full of questions worth investigating.
How do cells work? What do genes tell us? How does the human body respond to change?
Biology is the study of living systems. It connects what happens inside cells and molecules with the functions of organisms and the processes that sustain life. Studying Biology also means learning to ask testable questions, examine evidence and explain what you discover.
At MEU, students build a shared foundation in biology, chemistry and scientific research, then pursue a concentration that reflects their interests in human health or biotechnology.
One Degree. Two Directions.
Explore living systems. Learn to investigate. Choose your focus.
Build a Biology Foundation
Study general biology, genetics, molecular biology and chemistry, connecting the building blocks of life to bigger biological questions.
Think Like a Scientist
Learn to observe, form hypotheses, work with experiments, interpret data and communicate scientific ideas.
Explore Your Concentration
Focus your studies on Biomedical or Biotechnology while progressing toward the same Bachelor of Science in Biology.
Two Official Concentrations
One Biology degree. Two ways to go deeper.
Both concentrations begin with a shared Biology foundation. Compare what each one emphasizes before exploring its dedicated page.
BS in Biology · Biomedical Concentration
Understand life with a closer focus on human health.
For students considering medical school or advanced biomedical research. Explore biological knowledge related to the human body, cells and disease-related scientific questions.
Human Physiology · Cell Biology · Immunology · Biochemistry

Which Direction Sounds Like You?
Start with what you are curious about.
You do not need to map out your entire future today. Consider the kinds of scientific questions that keep your attention.
Interested in medical school? Biomedical is explicitly designed for this preparation, while Biotechnology can also serve as a pre-med track. Medical-school admission requirements are set by the medical schools themselves. Understand Pre-Med at MEU →
The Biology Foundation
Whichever path you take, build the habits of a scientist.
Your concentration adds focus. Your BS in Biology builds scientific understanding and the ability to question, investigate and explain.
Study living systems, recognize patterns and develop questions that can be investigated.
Understand how hypotheses, experiments and scientific methods connect.
Interpret and evaluate data, then communicate scientific ideas in writing and speech.
Consider how science connects with ethics, faith, social responsibility and questions of origins.
Beyond the Textbook
Science becomes clearer when you investigate it.
Biology learning combines scientific concepts with laboratory activities and the interpretation of evidence.
The official curriculum includes laboratory-based General Biology study and a foundation in statistics and research design. These components help students connect scientific questions with observation, experimentation and data analysis.
The Biotechnology concentration also includes an Internship in Biotechnology. Practical components vary by concentration, and the Academic Catalog governs the details.
Your Biology. Your Direction.
Follow your questions toward what comes next.
Biology can be a foundation for future study and professional directions in health-related science, biomedical research, biotechnology and education.
The Biomedical concentration is designed to prepare students for medical school or biomedical graduate research. The Biotechnology concentration prepares students for work in the biotechnology field and may also support pre-med preparation. Students interested in teaching secondary science can explore the additional Teaching Diploma requirements.
Build a strong foundation. Choose the questions you want to pursue.Further study, professional eligibility and medical-school admission depend on the requirements of each institution, employer or licensing body.

Questions
Still exploring your future in Biology?
Is Biomedical a separate degree from Biology?
No. Biomedical is a concentration within MEU's Bachelor of Science in Biology. Biotechnology is the other concentration in the same degree.
What is the difference between Biomedical and Biotechnology?
Biomedical emphasizes preparation for medical school or graduate biomedical research. Biotechnology focuses on preparation for the biotechnology field and can also serve as a pre-med track. Both share the BS in Biology foundation.
Can I study Biology before applying to medical school?
Yes. The Catalog describes Biomedical as preparation for medical school, and Biotechnology can also be used as a pre-med track. Neither concentration guarantees admission. Review the prerequisites and application rules of each medical school you are considering.
Does the Biology program include laboratory work?
The Catalog includes laboratory sessions in foundational General Biology courses. The Biotechnology concentration also lists an Internship in Biotechnology. The specific requirements depend on your concentration and the current curriculum.
Can a Biology graduate prepare to teach secondary science?
The Catalog states that either Biology concentration can be combined with a Teaching Diploma. Students who want to teach at the secondary level need to complete the additional diploma requirements listed by the Faculty of Education.
Is Pre-Med another Biology concentration?
No. The official BS in Biology has two concentrations: Biomedical and Biotechnology. Pre-Med describes preparation for future medical-school applications, not a third Biology concentration or a separate MEU degree.
Where can I find Biology courses and admission requirements?
Use the current Academic Catalog for credits, courses and degree requirements. Ask Admissions about the application process and which entry route applies to your previous education.
