WE ARE HEARTBROKEN
Together with the Kattan family of Beirut, Lebanon, our hearts are broken by the sudden death on Tuesday evening, October 24, of Dany Kattan, one of our young MEU faculty in the School of Arts and Sciences, in an unfortunate accident in his home.
Dr. Dany was a joy to our entire campus. Because he spoke five languages fluently, he made friends easily among the many nationalities on campus and in the community. He was a gifted teacher and chemist, and was greatly loved by his colleagues. The blessing he brought those around him was demonstrated the most poignantly in his care and affection for Moises, his 4- year-old son.
Dany is survived in Lebanon by Moises, his son; his parents Moussa Kattan and Fadwa Issa; his brother, Ziad, and his sister, Nadine, as well as his larger extended family.
Join us in praying God’s comfort will be present among us as we extend our love and support to his family and to the many students whose lives he touched with Jesus’ love in the three years he served our MEU family.
AS WE MOURN
As we process the heartbreaking news of Dr. Dany Kattan’s death, I quietly celebrate your incredible response of support for both the Kattan family and for one another. This is a shockingly difficult moment which comes on top of our already wearying uncertain times here in Lebanon.
Yet, I am thankful. Thankful for the outpouring of compassionate acts and care. Thankful for your support and prayer. Thankful that you are there for Dany’s family and one another.
I am watching our MEU become one in a powerful and reassuring way—students, faculty, staff, and the Kattan family together—knowing that none of us can pass through these moments alone.
I am thankful, too, to God who enables us during these moments. We are not alone even as we press together. He is present with us, our Hope.
“God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4)

TO KEEP YOU INFORMED
Wednesday-Friday — MEU has suspended all classes and normal office activity through Friday, resuming classes as usual on Monday, October 30.
Thursday at 3:30pm — Dany’s Funeral will take place on Thursday, October 26 at 3:30pm in the Lady of the Angels Church in the Badaro area of Beirut. His family will be at the Church beforehand to receive people. Interment will be at the cemetery located on the lower MEU campus.
Friday from 11:00am – The Kattan family will receive people at Dany’s home on MEU Campus. Official announcement for the funeral:
