Thinking about Medicine?
Start with Biology.
Your goal may be medical school. Your next step is building the scientific foundation to pursue it. At MEU, students can explore pre-med preparation through the Bachelor of Science in Biology.
Pre-Med is a preparation pathway, not a separate MEU degree or an admission offer from a medical school.
What does Pre-Med mean at MEU?
Pre-Med is a direction you can pursue while working toward an undergraduate degree. At Middle East University, the official academic route is the Bachelor of Science in Biology, which offers two concentrations: Biomedical and Biotechnology.
The Biomedical concentration is designed to prepare students for medical school or graduate biomedical research. Biotechnology focuses on the biotechnology field and can also be used as a pre-med track. Both develop a foundation in biological sciences while leaving you with a Biology degree to work toward.
Explore the BS in BiologyHow could your path to Medicine begin?
Your starting point depends on your previous schooling and eligibility. Admissions can help you check the right route.
Check your entry route
If your academic background requires the Freshman Program, the Science Track is the relevant preparatory route for students aiming to study Biology. Students eligible for direct undergraduate admission may apply for Biology without taking Freshman.

Compare your optionsPlan your medical-school applications
Research the requirements of each medical school you may apply to. Prerequisite courses, examinations, experience, eligibility and selection rules are set by those institutions, not by this pathway.
Ask a question about your routeImportant: A Biology degree and pre-med preparation do not guarantee acceptance into medical school. Medical-school admission is a separate competitive process.
Choose the way you want to explore Biology.
These are the two official concentrations of the BS in Biology. Neither is a standalone undergraduate degree.

More than a plan for medical school.
Biology helps you develop knowledge and ways of thinking that matter in medicine, research and other science-related directions.
A scientific foundation
Learn to investigate living systems, from cells and genes to broader biological processes.
Research-minded thinking
Practice asking good questions, interpreting evidence and understanding research methods.
Scientific communication
Develop the ability to explain ideas and findings clearly, in written and spoken forms.
Ethics & service
Consider the connections between science, faith, ethics and responsibility to others.
A strong next step, wherever your path leads.
Medical school may be your long-term ambition. But your time studying Biology at MEU can be meaningful in its own right: learning in English, connecting with a multicultural university community, and developing scientific knowledge alongside a sense of service.
As your goals become clearer, you can keep exploring what comes after your Biology degree—from medical-school applications to further study in biology or related scientific fields.
Start here. Keep growing here.
If you complete Freshman Science at MEU, Biology can be one of the next undergraduate directions to explore, subject to eligibility and admission requirements.

Clear answers now can help you make a more informed decision about your next step.
Is Pre-Med a separate degree or a one-year program at MEU?
No. MEU's official undergraduate degree is the Bachelor of Science in Biology. Pre-Med is a way of describing preparation for future medical-school applications through that degree. It is different from the Freshman Program.
Does MEU offer a medical degree (MD) through this pathway?
No MD degree is listed as part of this MEU pathway. The Biology degree is undergraduate study; you would apply separately to a medical school that offers medical training.
Which Biology concentration is for someone interested in Medicine?
The MEU catalog describes Biomedical as preparation for medical school or biomedical graduate research. Biotechnology may also be used as a pre-med route. Discuss your interests and intended medical-school requirements before choosing.
Do I need Freshman Science before starting Biology?
Not everyone does. Freshman Science is the relevant MEU preparatory track for students who need the Freshman Program and intend to continue in Biology. If you already qualify for undergraduate entry, Admissions can confirm your direct application route.
Can I apply to any medical school afterward?
You may explore medical-school options, but each school determines its own eligibility, prerequisite courses, selection criteria, and recognition of prior study. There is no automatic eligibility or acceptance through this MEU page.
Will I need to take the MCAT or another exam?
That depends on the medical school and education system you are targeting. Some medical schools use the MCAT or other assessments. Confirm the current requirements directly with the institutions where you plan to apply.
Is Biology useful if I later change my career plan?
Yes, the BS in Biology develops a broad scientific foundation relevant to further study and science-related directions. Career access and professional licensing vary by role and country, so check the requirements for any specific profession.
Where do I find the official courses and admission requirements?
Use MEU's current Academic Catalog for the Biology curriculum and Application Procedure for the admissions process. Admissions can help you understand your entry route.
