Freshman Program

Start here. Build your foundation. Discover what comes next.

Freshman helps eligible high-school graduates prepare for undergraduate study in Lebanon. At MEU, you can choose the Arts or Science track — and explore the possibility of continuing your degree at the same university.

Understanding Your Starting Point

What exactly is the Freshman Program?

There is more than one way to begin university in Lebanon.

If you completed high school through a system that does not give you direct entry into a Lebanese university degree, you may need a preparatory step first. The Freshman Program is one possible route for eligible students, depending on their qualifications and the official equivalence process.

Instead of beginning with a specialized major, you develop a broader academic foundation. You study subjects across different fields and follow either the Arts or Science track according to the degree you hope to pursue later.

Good to know: Freshman is a preparatory program, not a bachelor's degree. Not every applicant needs to complete it; Admissions can help determine the correct entry route.

Your Academic Journey

How does Freshman work?

From checking your qualifications to exploring a degree, here is the journey in simple terms.

Check your entry route

Admissions reviews your school background and explains the tests, documents and official approvals that may apply.

Choose Arts or Science

Your intended area of undergraduate study helps determine which Freshman track is right for you.

Build your foundation

Study a mix of academic subjects while completing the requirements for your selected track.

Plan your next degree

Work toward the official equivalence and admission requirements needed to move into undergraduate studies.

Progression is subject to the latest MEU degree-entry requirements and the applicable Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) equivalence procedures. It is not automatic after completing Freshman.

Two Tracks, Your Direction

Arts or Science: where do your interests lead?

Both tracks give you a broad academic foundation, but their requirements are different. Think about what you may want to study after Freshman and compare the two paths below.

Common Questions

Questions about starting Freshman?

Does every student need to complete Freshman?

No. It depends on your secondary-school qualifications and the official admission and equivalence rules. Admissions can help determine whether Freshman or direct undergraduate entry is the appropriate route for you.

How do I know if I should choose Arts or Science?

Start with the university degree you're interested in after Freshman. Each track is associated with different areas of undergraduate study and has different curriculum requirements. Ask Admissions to confirm which track fits your intended degree.

Can I stay at MEU for my bachelor's degree after Freshman?

Yes, continuing at MEU is a possibility. You must successfully complete the Freshman requirements, obtain the required official equivalence and meet the current admission conditions for your chosen degree. Admission is not automatic.

Will Freshman credits count toward my bachelor's degree?
